
In Sanatan Dharm, the fast of Karwa Chauth has great significance for married women. This festival symbolizes the sacred relationship, unbreakable love, and trust between husband and wife. On this day, women observe a Nirjala fast throughout the day for the long life, good health, and happy married life of their husbands. On this day, Goddess Parvati, Lord Shiva, Ganesha, and Karwa Mata are ritually worshipped in the evening, and the fast is broken only after offering Arghya to the Moon at night. According to the Panchang, the fast of Karwa Chauth is observed every year on the Chaturthi Tithi of the Krishna Paksha of the Kartik month. This year, Chaturthi Tithi will begin on the 29th October at 01:06 PM and will end on the same day at 10:09 PM. According to the Udayatithi, the fast of Karwa Chauth will be observed on 29 October. The auspicious muhurat for the evening Puja is from 5:38 PM to 6:56 PM.
For Puja: Earthen pot, lid, seekh (5 or 7), diya, camphor, incense sticks, matchsticks.
Decoration and Arghya: Kalava, Roli, Akshat, sandalwood, turmeric, flowers, and dry fruits.
Bhog, Water: Small water vessel, raw milk, sugar, sweets, and sweet prasad made of wheat or rice and wheat flour for filling in the karwa.
Shringar Items: Red chunri, sieve (channi to see the moon), and solah shringar items.
On the day of Karwa Chauth, the mother-in-law gives sargi to her daughter-in-law before sunrise in the morning. Sargi consists of fruits, sweets, and dry fruits. The fast is started by eating it before sunrise.
After eating Sargi, food and water are not consumed for the whole day, as this is a nirjala fast.
In the evening, all the women sit together and listen to the vrat katha of Karwa Chauth.
After the moon rises at night, it is seen through a sieve (channi). Then Arghya is offered to the moon by lighting a diya, and the fast is completed by drinking the water from the husband's hands.
According to religious beliefs, observing the fast of Karwa Chauth removes all the troubles from the husband's life. Goddess Parvati also did this difficult penance to get Lord Shiva as her husband and to have unbroken good fortune with him. It is believed that the woman who observes this fast with full devotion always has happiness, peace, and prosperity in her house.
