In Hindu Dharm, the festival of Shardiya Navratri has great significance. After worshipping different forms of Goddess Durga for nine days, Kanya Puja is performed on the Ashtami or Navami tithi. As per religious belief, little girls are considered the embodiment of Goddess Durga. Worshipping during Navratri and observing a fast is considered incomplete without performing the Kanya Pujan, but sometimes this question arises in the minds: Kanya Pujan should be performed with how many girls? Here, we will tell you about how many girls and the necessary rules of worship.
The scriptures state that feeding 9 girls in Kanya Puja is considered most auspicious, because 9 girls represent nine different forms of Maa Durga. But for some reason, if you are unable to find 9 girls, then there is no need to worry. As per your will, you can call 2, 3, 5, 7, or 9 girls and serve them food. It is believed that inviting an odd number of girls is considered auspicious.
In the scriptures, different results of worshiping different numbers of girls have been mentioned:
During Kanya Puja, at least one small child (boy) is also invited along with the girls. This child (boy) is considered to be the form of Langur or Batuk Bhairav. It is believed that Lord Shiva asked Bhairav Baba to stay with her to protect Goddess Durga, so without worshiping Bhairav Baba, the full results of Kanya Puja are not achieved.
