Shardiya Navratri 2026 

In Sanatan Dharm, the festival of Shardiya Navratri is one of the most auspicious events. During the nine days of Navratri, nine different forms of Goddess Durga are worshiped with proper rituals. Every form of the Goddess is not only a symbol of divine powers, but also contains a deep secret that gives a new direction to life. In this article, we will tell you about the 9 forms of Navadurga and their religious significance.


Goddess Shailputri

Goddess Shailputri is known as the daughter of Himalaya and is the first form of the Goddess. She has a trident (Trishool) in one hand and a lotus in the other. It is said that Goddess Shailputri represents the Mooladhar Chakra, and worshipping her brings stability, determination, and willpower in life.


Goddess Brahmacharini

Brahma means penance, and charini's conduct. Due to her rigorous penance, she is known as Brahmacharini. This form of the Goddess is associated with the Swadhisthana Chakra. Goddess Brahmacharini is the goddess of restraint, sacrifice, and loyalty, and worshipping her brings success and mental peace.


Goddess Chandraghanta

A half-moon shaped like a temple bell (Ghanta) is adorned on the forehead of the Goddess, which is why she is known as Goddess Chandraghanta. This form of the Goddess awakens the Manipur Chakra. This form of the Goddess teaches us how to remain calm and yet stand without fear against evil.


Maa Kushmanda

Goddess Kushmanda created the universe with her gentle smile, which is why she is known as Goddess Kushmanda. This is considered to be the divine power of creation. She is the goddess of the Anahat Chakra. By worshiping them, one gets health, fame, and freedom from all kinds of troubles.


Goddess Skandamata

She is known as Skandamata because she is the Goddess of Lord Kartikeya, and he is also known as Skanda. Goddess Skandamata is seated on a lotus with child-like Skanda in her lap. This form of her is associated with the Vishuddha Chakra and is a symbol of affection and immense knowledge. Worshipping her removes all the problems related to children. 


Goddess Katyayani

Goddess Katyayani was pleased with the penance of Maharishi Katyayan and was born as a daughter in his house, which is why she is known as Katyayani. She killed the demon Mahishasura. Worshipping Goddess Katyayani controls the Ajna Chakra, removes all obstacles related to marriage, and leads to victory over enemies.


Goddess Kalratri

Despite having a black complexion and fierce appearance, Maa Kaalratri is the one who gives auspicious results, which is why she is also known as Shubhankari. She is associated with the Sahasrara Chakra. Even though her appearance is scary, she destroys all kinds of fear and negative energy.


Maa Mahagauri

After rigorous penance, when Lord Shiva bathed the Goddess with Gangajal, her complexion became as clear as camphor (kapur). After this, the goddess came to be known as Mahagauri, and she represents Soma Chakra. She is considered the symbol of purity and freedom from sins. Worshipping her destroys the sins of past life. With this, one attains happiness and peace.


Goddess Siddhidatri

On the last day of Navratri, Goddess Siddhidatri is worshiped. She is the goddess who bestows all eight achievements and nine treasures. She is the symbol of perfection. By worshiping her, one attains all the happiness and achievements in life.
