According to Sanatan Dharm, the birth anniversary of Lord Hanuman is celebrated on the Purnima Tithi of the Shukla Paksha during the month of Chaitra. On this day, offering Bhog consisting of jaggery, roasted gram, sweet paan, and Besan Laddoo to Lord Hanuman is considered extremely auspicious. On the auspicious day of Hanuman Jayanti, devotees can chant the mantra "Om Ham Hanumate Namah." The Purnima that falls during the Shukla Paksha of the month of Chaitra is known as Chaitra Purnima. It is believed that worshipping and observing a fast for the Moon on this day fulfils all the wishes. Performing jalabhishek and acts of charity on this day is said to bring peace to the souls of ancestors.

It is believed that Goddess Sita incarnated (King Janak found her in an earthen pot) on this day during the Treta Yuga.
