The festival of Kalashtami is dedicated to Lord Bhairav. This festival is celebrated on the Ashtami date of the Krishna Paksha of the Hindu lunar month. Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha is considered to be the most suitable day to please Lord Kaal Bhairav. On this day, Hindu devotees worship Lord Bhairav and observe a fast to please him. A total of 12 Kalashtami are celebrated in a year. Of these, 'Margshirsha' is the most important one falling in the month and it is known as 'Kalbhairav Jayanti'. Kalashtami falling on Sunday or Tuesday is also considered special, as these days are dedicated to Lord Bhairav. 

Kalashtami Puja Timings 

The festival of worshipping Lord Bhairav on Kalashtami is celebrated with full enthusiasm and devotion in different parts of the country. Next Kalashtami date, 20 July 2022: Will be celebrated on Wednesday. Time of Ashtami Tithi: July 20, from 7:36 am to July 21, will remain till 8:12 am. 
Kalashtami Puja is a special time and special rules have to be followed on this day. Kaal Bhairav is worshipped both in sattvik and tamasic form. Liquor is offered to Bhairav in Tamsik Puja and sweets and Kheer are offered in Satvik Puja. On this day, it is mandatory to follow purification and purity in worship. Wrong thoughts of any kind end the fast and the worship becomes fruitless, in this worship the punishment of mistakes is also received, so it is advised to do Kaal Bhairav Puja with special care. 

Kalashtami worship method rules 

Kalashtami is an important day for the devotees of Lord Shiva. On this day the devotees get up before sunrise and take an early bath. After retiring from bathing, the special worship of Kaal Bhairav is done. In the evening, Lord also goes to the temple of Kaal Bhairav and offers special worship there. Special worship and rituals are also performed for the ancestors in the morning on Kalashtami. On this day, the devotees also keep a strict fast for the whole day and the devotees keep awake all night and spend their time listening to the story of Mahakaleshwar. According to the beliefs, one who observes Kalashtami fast is blessed with prosperity and happiness and gets all the success in his life. It is considered auspicious to recite Kaal Bhairav Katha and chant mantras dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is auspicious to feed dogs on Kalashtami. The black dog is considered to be the vehicle of Lord Bhairav, so dogs are given milk, curd and sweets on this day. All types of diseases and defects are pacified by Kalashtami Puja.
