Lakshmi Narayan Temple also known as Birla temple is a Hindu temple which is completely dedicated to Lord Lakshmi Narayan. This temple is located in New Delhi, India. The temple is located on the temple road west of Connaught Place. This temple is one of the major temples of Delhi and is a major tourist attraction. The temple is dedicated to Godess Lakshmi and Lord Narayana.
The Birla Mandir was built by industrialist Baldev Das Birla. The construction of the temple began in 1933 and was inaugurated in 1939 by Mahatma Gandhi on the condition that people of all castes be allowed to visit the temple. The first Birla temple was built collectively by Ghanshyamdas Birla and his brothers and their fathers in Delhi in 1939. The temples of Lord Shiva, Krishna and Buddha on both sides of this temple. The temple is spread over 7.5 acres and is adorned with many temples, large gardens and Geeta Bhawan.
This three-storied temple is built in the Nagara style of Hindu, temple architecture. The sculptures of the temple were carved by around 100 skilled artisans from Banaras under the chairmanship of Acharya Vishwanath Shastri. The idols of the temple were made by marble brought from Jaipur. Kota stones of Makrana, Agra, Kota and Jaisalmer were used in the construction of the temple complex. The idols of the main temples of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Narayana attracts thousands of devotees specially the janmashtami and diwali.
