In Sanatan Dharm, the festival of Raksha Bandhan is not just a festival of tying a silk thread, but it is a symbol of the sacred love and protection of brother and sister. The auspicious festival of Raksha Bandhan will be celebrated on Purnima of the month of Sawan, which will fall on 28th August. According to the scriptures, it will be essential to decorate the puja thali with the right materials before tying Rakhi on this day. According to religious beliefs, if the Rakhi thali contains 7 auspicious things mentioned in the scriptures, it brings happiness, prosperity, and positive energy in the brother's life. 

Include these Items in the Puja Thali

Roli or Sindoor

There is a tradition of applying Tilak on the brother's forehead before tying Rakhi. For this, keep roli or red sindoor in a plate, as red color symbolizes the Sun, which brings brightness, energy, confidence, and good health. By applying Roli Tilak on the forehead, the brother gets victory in every aspect of life.

Akshat
Akshat (rice) is applied on the tilak. It is mentioned in the scriptures that Akshat means one who is complete. Always keep unbroken rice in the plate, as applying Akshat on the tilak means that there should never be any problem of happiness, prosperity, wealth, and respect in the brother's life, and his luck should always shine.

Raksha Sutra
Rakshasutra is one of the most important things that should be included in the thali. According to mythological scriptures, Goddess Lakshmi made King Bali her brother by tying him a Rakshasutra and took a promise to protect him. This silk thread acts as a protective shield, protecting the brother from all kinds of evil forces, negativity, and troubles.

Diya
In the thali, keep a burning ghee diya. After tying Rakhi, the sister performs Aarti for her brother, as it destroys all the negative energies around the brother. At the same time, the flame of the diya symbolizes that the brother's life will always be filled with knowledge, success, and positivity.

Sweets
After applying Tilak and tying Rakhi, sweets should be fed to the brothers. Place pure sweets, such as fresh sweets or homemade kheer, on a plate. From a religious point of view, feeding sweets means that sweetness will remain in the brother-sister relationship throughout life, and speech will also be sweet.

Shriphal
In the scriptures, coconut is called 'Shriphal', which is a symbol of Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and auspiciousness. Keep a coconut on a plate and give it to your brother while tying Rakhi. This increases wealth in your brother's life and removes financial obstacles.

Gangajal or Pure water
Keep Gangajal or pure water in a small vessel on the plate. Water is used to purify the worship material and wash hands before applying tilak. Gangajal brings peace to the mind and makes it spiritually pure.

Pay special attention to these things.

• On the day of Raksha Bandhan, take a bath in the morning and wear red or yellow colored clothes.
• After preparing the puja thali, first worship Lord Ganesha, Lord Shiva, and your family deity.
• After this, offer the first Rakhi to God.
• Always make your brother sit facing east or north.
• The sister should be facing west.
• Place a sacred cloth or handkerchief on the brother's head, then apply Roli-Akshat tilak on the forehead, tie Rakhi on the right wrist, perform aarti, and offer sweets.
