The auspicious festival of Shardiya Navratri is celebrated with great enthusiasm in the Hindu religion. After ritually worshiping different forms of Goddess Durga for nine days, devotees break their fast on Ashtami and Navami. Kanya Puja is considered to be the most important part of Navratri puja, but every year a major question arises that when should Kanya Puja be done, on the day of Maha Ashtami or Mahanavami?

Should Kanya Puja be done on Ashtami or Navami?

According to religious beliefs, Kanya Puja depends on the traditions of the region and clan on which day you perform the puja:

Worship on Ashtami Tithi: The tradition of performing Kanya Pujan on the day of Maha Ashtami is most prevalent in North India and many other states. Mahagauri is worshiped on this day, and in many houses, Havan and Kanya Bhoj are organized on the day of Ashtami itself.

Worship on Navami Tithi: Some people consider it auspicious to perform Kanya Puja on Navami Tithi, as Goddess Siddhidatri is worshiped on Navami Tithi and the fast is completed only after Havan and Kanya Puja.

You can also do this: If Kanya Pujan is performed at your house on Ashtami, then celebrate it on Ashtami. If there is a tradition of Navami, then worship the girl on Navami day. Both dates are very dear to Goddess Durga.

Auspicious time for Kanya Pujan

Kanya Puja should always be done in an auspicious muhurat only. Abhijit Muhurat in the morning or afternoon is considered best for Kanya Puja. Along with this, one should avoid worshiping girls during Rahukaal.
