The auspicious festival of Shardiya Navratri ends on the day of Vijayadashami after nine days of grand worship of Goddess Durga. After worshiping the Goddess, fasting, and doing havan for nine days, the Goddess is bid farewell on Dashami Tithi, which is known as Durga Visarjan. This period may be a bit emotional for the devotees, because during these nine days the Goddess remains like a member of our house. Special rules for Durga immersion are described in the scriptures. If some important things are not taken care of during immersion, then the full results of the puja are not achieved.
The auspicious period to perform Durga Visarjan is between 6:00 Am to 10:00 AM on Dashami Tithi. Also, immersion of Maa Durga during nighttime or the Pradosh period is considered inauspicious.
One should never immerse the idol of the Goddess as per their wish or during Rahukaal. It is considered auspicious to take immersion before the end of Dashami Tithi.
While bidding farewell to Maa Durga, one should not bring any kind of anger, haste, or negative thoughts to mind. Immersion should always be done with a calm mind while thanking the Goddess.
Before immersion, one must apologize to the Goddess for any unintentional mistake. Immersion is considered incomplete without prayer for forgiveness.
According to religious beliefs, on the day of Vijayadashami, Goddess Durga leaves for Mount Kailash. Visarjan does not mean that the Goddess is going away from us, but it means that the Goddess takes away the evils and negativity within us and leaves us with strength and blessings.
