There is a mythological story of Vijaya Parvati Vrat. It is also known as Jayaparvati Vrat. It is also called Jaya Devi Vrat because Jaya Devi is also a form of Mother Parvati. It is mainly celebrated in the state of Gujarat. Apart from married women, this fast is kept by unmarried girls. Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva are worshiped in this fast. This fast is considered to be a five-day hard fast. Married women also observe this fast for their happy life and getting children. Unmarried girls do this fast with full devotion and dedication in the desire of a good groom. This fast has a lot of belief in Gujarat, there is a mythological story behind this fast, how a Brahmin and his wife can be a mother to get children. Story behind this fast

According to the legend of this fast, once in a town named Kaudinya, a Brahmin named Vamana and his wife named Satya. Both lived with love in their hut i.e. their house, there was no shortage of any kind in their house, but both of them used to be unhappy because they did not have children.

One day Narad ji came to his house, Brahmin and his wife served Narada Muni with reverence and asked some solution to get their child.

Narad Muni also understood that both husband and wife were very sad, then they only told that there is a forest at some distance from your house, at the southern end of it, under a bilva tree with Lord Shiva and mother Parvati. He resides in the form of a linga. You both can Worship him, he will be the solution to all your sorrows.

Then the Brahmin husband and wife found that Shivling, cleaned it and started worshiping according to the law. Similarly, he spent about 5 years in worship.

It is a matter of one day, when the Brahmin was plucking flowers for his worship, suddenly a snake came and bitten the Brahmin, he fell into the forest when the husband did not reach home even after a long time, his wife Seeing her husband who had reached the forest in search of him, she started crying a lot, she started calling mother Parvati and the forest deity.
Hearing the call of the wife, the forest deity and mother Parvati came and put nectar in the head of the Brahmin, due to which the Brahmin was resurrected, Mother Parvati was not pleased with his worship, she asked the couple what they wanted to ask, then both of them expressed desire to get children. Mother Parvati suggested them to observe Vijaya Parvati fast.

On the day of Ashadh Shukla Trayodashi, both the Brahmin couple completed this fast of Mother Parvati with the rituals, due to which they got a son, so whoever observes the fast on this day with full devotion, can get a child and his/her good fortune remains forever.

When to worship ?

Jaya Parvati Vrat starts from the thirteenth day of Shukla Paksha of July in the month of Ashadha. This fast is for five days. It is recommended to observe this fast for a maximum of five, nine, eleven or twenty years continuously every year. It has been told in the Puranas that Lord Vishnu has told the secret of this fast to Goddess Lakshmi. Apart from this, by making a sand elephant in the fast, they also worship it and five types of fruits and flowers are offered to them.

Women and girls observing the fast cannot eat Anna or any kind of vegetables. They can eat only fruits, milk curd or sweets made from milk. In this fast, you can eat only fruit made from jowar without salt.

Method of observing this fast.

On the day of Ashadh Shukla Trayodashi, wake up at the time of Brahma Muhurta and take bath after doing your regular tasks, after that, while resolving to fast, remember Mother Parvati. If the temple of the house has an idol or picture of Shiva-Parvati, then worship Do the same otherwise install an idol or picture.

Then start the worship by offering kumkum, belpatra, musk ashtagandha and flowers to Shiva-Parvati, offer coconut, pomegranate and other materials for offering.

Now by taking care of Mother Parvati, pray sincerely for happiness, good luck and peace, and ask for forgiveness for the mistakes committed by you.

Now you must also chant Mata Parvati Mantra Om Namah Shivaya. Now you have to read the story. After the Katha, complete the worship by performing aarti.

Make sure to offer food to Brahmins and take blessings by touching their feet by giving dakshina as per your wish.
